Our Finance Director will own our Finance Function. This role is based in London, working on a flexible hybrid basis.

The Opportunity
As the Finance Director at Payset, you will be responsible for both the hands-on management of financial operations and the strategic financial leadership of the company. You will report directly to the Founder/CEO and work closely with the executive team to drive business growth, manage risk, and optimize financial operations. This is a high-impact role that combines day-to-day financial management with strategic oversight, requiring both leadership and technical expertise. A deep understanding of financial regulations and fintech operations will be critical to the role.
Responsibilities
- Financial Strategy & Leadership
Partner with the executive team to provide strategic financial insights that drive decision-making.
Collaborate with key departments (Risk & Compliance, Experience, Product & R&D, Marketing, etc.) to ensure financial alignment with business objectives.
Offer financial support and guidance to other teams whenever relevant.
- Regulatory & Compliance Oversight
Ensure compliance with FCA and other relevant regulatory requirements, including capital adequacy, safeguarding, and financial reporting.
Support and, in some cases, oversee regulatory reporting, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
Manage safeguarding accounts, daily reconciliations, and other required regulatory processes.
Ensure robust safeguarding measures are in place to protect client funds in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Financial Operations & Control
Oversee treasury and liquidity management to ensure sufficient working capital.
Lead the financial close process and ensure timely reporting to the executive team.
Manage FP&A activities, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost control.
Identify key financial performance metrics, ensure proper tracking, and provide insights to relevant stakeholders.
Optimise financial processes, controls, and automation to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
Manage external audits, tax compliance, and relationships with auditors, external accounting firms, and other relevant stakeholders.
- Risk Management & Reporting
Monitor financial risks, ensuring robust internal controls and risk management frameworks.
Provide regular financial and regulatory reports to the executive team.
Ensure compliance with accounting standards and best practices.
- Leadership & Stakeholder Management
Lead and mentor the Finance team, fostering a high-performance culture.
Drive process automation and digital transformation within the Finance function.
Qualifications
5+ years of experience in a senior finance role, preferably within fintech, payments, or financial services.
Strong knowledge of UK financial regulations, particularly FCA requirements.
Proven experience in financial planning, treasury management, and regulatory reporting.
Experience in safeguarding client funds and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
Experience in working within an Electronic Money Institution (EMI) or similar regulatory environment is highly desirable.
Exceptional analytical and strategic thinking skills.
Excellent communication and leadership capabilities.
Experience in financial process automation and digital transformation.
